Mischief Workers Let the Dummy Coach Fly Down the Mountain. be veral nights ago some person or persons on pure devilment bent decided to have some fun with tbe dummy line train. They went to the shed on tbe mountain, where tbe train U kept when oot ot service, and being nnable to set the whole train in motion uncoupled th coech and cnt the vacuum hose. As soon as this was done tbe car started down tbe mount io, and every turn of the wheels added to its momentum. The car stuck to the rails in its meteoric flight, and turning into Charlotte street ran almost to the top of tbe grade at Allandale. Back it ran and then back and firth between tbe grades, each trio growing shorter, until it came to a standstill in the level. It is told of a colored man who lives near the line tbat be heard the roar of the flvine coach and rnnning to the door saw it flash bv. "Good Lord 1 he ex claimed. 'Ms dat Tanner's train ?" Di nctly he saw it tunning back and witha groan ne qu'Ckly shut tbe door, crying ont that "It s comm' back after me, sure." Tbe only damage was by the cutting ol tbe nose. There la a. Barrel of Money on Both Sides, and It Is Therefore a BUr War Between Capitalist Cut In Prices. St. Louis. Mo., March 4 The anti trust tobacco manufacturers have fired tbe first gnn and begun tbe expected war bicb baa been predicted for sometime' between tbe tobacco manufacturers out side of the trust aud tbe American To bacco company. Last Saturday tbe Liggitt& Meyers Tobacco company sent out circulars to all dealers in the United States who bandied their brand, notify ing them tbat a cut of three cents tbe pound would be made on this brand ot tobacco. Three bouts after this circular was prepared, tbe Drummond Tobacco company heard ot it and sent out a similar circular. Both these firms are of St. Louis, and it ia understood tbe Lor ri lards and other eastern firms will fol low suit. It is probable this cut is tbe beginning of a war greater than any that has taken place in tbis country between capitalists. On one side is tbe trust with a capital of $40,000,000, and on tbe other a hall dozen individual manufact urer whose combined capital would equal $50, 00,000, all bound together bv a single tie a desire to down tbe trust and protect their interests. ENGLAND MAKES OUT HEB CASE. An English Paper clays an Kna:llh- man Says So. London, March 4. Th St. Tames Ga zette, under the caption of the "British case against Venezuela," prints two col umns of matter which, it claims, is t summary of tbe report made bv Sir Fred erick Pollock for submission to Parlia ment. Tbe report shows that tbe Dutch had, from the earliest times, possession ot tne coast oi uui ma as tar norm as tbe mi'uth of the Orinoco, such posses son implying right of ownership of Hin terland. a right exercised by the Dutch, who, in the sixteenth Centura, had coffee, cotton and sugar plantations lar up rivers and prospected lor gnld and silver in tbe basin of Cuvunt. The Du'ch arch ives are so well kept tbat Sir Frtderick Pollock has been able to make an irre fragible'case for British ownership of the (.uyuni basin as having been in ber iter) from the Dutch, though no absolute evi dence is adducible to show far the Dutch held tbe country b-tween the natural ge ographical delimitation known as tbe iM-bomburgb line and tbe bank of tbr Orinoco.
